week05

Welcome back!

Come up and ask me questions for 5 mins :)

Notes from Marking

  • Overall pretty good. I really want people to justify every recommendation they come up with please!
  • Dont just say Do XYZ. Say Do XYZ beacause of ABC.

When are things due?

Week 5 Logbooks are due No one knows apparently!

OK so what happened in the lecture?

Privacy?

Problematic statements…

trust the government if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about

Who here actually trusts the government?

I do. Usually.

Those airplane declaration forms are interesting…

Panopticon is really interesting

We love regulators (Europe is great at this)

  • USB-C
  • Sideloading
  • GDPR!

Case Study Time.

Debate!

Government agencies should be allowed to collect and have access to all data and communications of everyone in Australia, for good purposes.

For: Yes, they should Against: No, they shouldnt.

Groups of 5

  • First speaker has 2 minutes to provide 3 arguments FOR the topic.

  • Second Speaker has the same but against.

  • Third speaker will point out flaws in the arguments of the second speaker - summarising the for case.

  • Fourth speaker will do the same but for the against.

  • Adjudicator will talk about what was convincing, what was not and decide on who won.

Notes

  1. The first speakers should define or clarify terms from the question.
  2. Stick to your time (2 mins), be clear, be unemotional and dont make things personal.
  3. Focus on the problem at hand - not the op talking about it.
  4. Listen to what the other side is saying. The best rebuttles are those that consider the other side.
